Happy New Year!
My New Year's present from my car was a rattle.
It's less than 3 weeks old, but everytime I went over a bump something rattled. And if you saw the state of the roads here, then you'll realise that it basically had a constant rattle. I was not impressed.
I took it back to the dealer, explained what was wrong with it and a little man took it away to look at it.
About 15 minutes later, he returned. "Nothing," he said.
"You can't find anything wrong?"
"Nothing," he said again.
I got back in my car, drove about a meter, over a bump, and there it was again.
I ran back to the mechanic, "Come on, come with me"
We jump in the car, straight over a bump and the car rattles again, "Seeee!"
He starts laughing, never a good sign for a mechanic I find.
He got out, wandered off and came back with a very small spanner....and tightens the aeriel.
How embarrassing.
On the plus side, it's not rattling anymore...

Wow. Cool blog. It's great to know what you're up to and how you're getting on. I really miss not seeing you on Sky. The weather isn't the same without you.Have you met Darren Jordan yet?
You're right Mark - "it's supposed to do that" would have been a lot worse, but the laughter was enough for me!
And Horse, of course I've met Darren Jordan, we work in the same building! I don't know him very well, but he seems to have a good sense of humour, which can be necessary here...

I dont really know how do you find time to manage a blog given you are the only one giving the weather on a 24h channel!!its always a pleasure to know what you're up to.

Hello Steff,
Great to read your blog, I relocated to the UAE last year so can appreciate some of your trials and tribulations!
I'm flying in the PG tips too - people in the office I work think that the pyramids must be Egyptian tea!

You're in the UAE? What's that like?
I'm really keen to visit Dubai, as I've heard they sell bacon and there's more places to party...however, someone also told me the traffic was terrible and it took 2 hours to get anywhere. Is this true? What a nightmare...

I’ve been in UAE for just under a year and I must say it has been a surprisingly easy place to settle in and feel at home.
I’m living in Abu Dhabi rather than Dubai, but both are very cosmopolitan places and it is easy to track down a bacon sarnie and a pint!
The traffic is horrendous in Dubai and certainly I find Abu Dhabi a calmer and easier place to live!

Ah, well in that case you will have to let me know where the best watering holes are in Abu Dhabi. I'm sure I'll end up there for a weekend at some point.
No problem, there are plenty to chose from.
